Vaccines and Nanoparticles
"Scientists have created nanoparticles which are able to encourage the body to accept vaccines against illnesses and infections. Nanoparticles that have been fortified with immune fighting properties can help to boost the effect of vaccines, scientists are claiming.
When injected into the body at the same time as a vaccine the nanoparticles stimulate the lymph nodes, where the majority of immune system reactions originate from.
This then encourages the immune system to react quickly to infections or viruses as soon as they enter the body and therefore makes the vaccines more effective.
After successfully testing the new nanoparticles on mice, the researchers are hoping they will soon be ready for use with human vaccines." source: Healthcare Global
I found this article particularly interesting and am wondering if anyone knows of similar research being conducted in Australia?

Hi Mcker,
Here is a research group based in Western Australia that is looking at using nanoparticles to improve vaccine efficacy:

Also, this group at Melbourne University is looking at something similar to use for vaccines against HIV:

And the nanomaterials centre at the University of Queensland are also researching it:

Hopefully that's enough to get started with and you could e-mail them directly for more detailed information about their projects and progress made.
Cheers
